2019 has been a huge year for us here at Freed of London, and we are still trying to soak up every last second until it ends!
This year, Freed of London were lucky enough to celebrate our 90th anniversary, we still can’t quite believe we get to provide shoes for some of the most fabulous and inspirational dancers in world – lucky us!
2019 was also a huge year for the world of ballet as it was the centenary of the utterly iconic Dame Margot Fonteyn, we are honoured to have been the company that provided Fonteyn’s pointe shoes throughout her revolutionary career.
And the ground-breaking ballet celebrations didn’t stop there, at this year’s Glastonbury festival, UK grime artist Stormzy featured Ballet Black dancers Cira Robinson and Mthuthuzeli November in his live set. What is even more exciting is that they wore none other than the collaborative Freed of London and Ballet Black pointe shoes that were released in 2018. After the wonderful response we received from these pointe shoes, Freed of London launched our Royal Academy of Dance approved Aspire Ballet Shoes, sock and tights in Ballet Brown and Ballet Bronze too –to make sure absolutely no dancer is left out.
Taking care of our environment has become more pivotal than ever in today’s world, which is why we have taken steps this year to become more eco-friendly and environmentally aware. We were very excited to introduce our reusable canvas bags as well as our very own eco-friendly Freed of London CHILLY’s bottles – which we can’t get enough of! We have also become the official stockists for Dansez wear – a brand that focuses on re-using plastic found in the sea to create active-wear garments.
Let’s not forget the release of our wonderful ballet flats! As a celebration of our 90 year anniversary, we used our undeniable knowledge and expertise to create a collection of gorgeous, comfortable and pointe shoe inspired Freed of London ballet flats.
2019 was also the year of the new Latin and American Smooth shoes! Our London design and manufacturing team worked hard towards the launch of the Freed of London Latin line expansion, which saw satin and glitter combinations, completely new shapes and patterns and higher heels than we’ve had before. Freed of London also had the pleasure of collaborating with Alexandra Perzhu, Paul Holmes and Tomas Mielnicki to release brand new American Smooth shoes, all inspired by these three incredible dancers.
We were also excited to launch the brand new and improved Freed of London online store and portfolio website where you can shop online and read about our company and it’s wonderful history.
And finally, our Freed of London pointe maker family has grown this year, with the addition of six new trainee members – we can’t wait to see what they bring to the world of ballet.
It has been a truly magnificent year, thank you all for joining us on this journey, and we cannot wait to see what next year will bring.
A very merry Christmas and a happy new year from the Freed of London team, see you next year!
